The Ernst Glück Bible Museum in Alüksne (Marienburg) is the house where Johann Ernst Glück (1652 – 1705), the translator and theologian, translated the Holy Bible into the Latvian language, a titanic work which he finished in 1694.
Glück, himself a son of a pastor, had a son, four daughters, and a foster-daughter Marta Skowrońska. The latter married the Russian Tsar Peter the Great. She took the name Catherine and was, after the death of her husband, empress of the Russian Empire, from 1725-1727.
