Fine Arts Museum Basel

Museums & Art Centres
The Fine Arts Museum Basel (Kunstmuseum Basel) houses in three buildings the largest and most significant public art collection in Switzerland. The collection of over 300.000 works is spanning eight centuries.

In the Hauptbau you can admire the collection up to Classical Modernism. The Neubau is reserved for special exhibitions, whereas the Gegenwart is used for contemporary art.

The origin of the collection goes back to the acquisition of the Amerbach Cabinet in 1661 by the city of Basel, consisting of precious works from the 15th and 16th centuries, such as a collection of works by Hans Holbein.
