Fota House

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks
Fota House's history is closely linked to the Smith-Barry family (Earls of Barrymore since 1627), who were granted lands at Fota already in 1185. Owned today by the Irish Heritage Trust, the House and gardens are open to the public.

The House was originally a hunting lodge but was transformed into the family's main residence (with over 70 rooms) in the 1820s, by the architect Sir Richard Morrison and his son Vitruvius.

Fota House offers not only monthly cultural events, including seasonal offerings at Christmas and Easter but is also very well equipped for corporate and private events such as weddings.
The arboretum and gardens of Fota ( “Fota” is derived from the Irish “Fód te” meaning warm soil) are, with its rare trees and exotic plants, internationally recognised.

Fota House is also a venue for film & photo shooting, cultural, corporate and private events, such as concerts, receptions, weddings...

The House can be visited by guided tours from April to September. Group tours and learning visits are available all year round.

For more detailed information about history, events and visits, see website.
