Museums & Art Centres
The Hopewell Colliery Museum is in the Forest of Dean. Here 'Freemining' is an ancient right bestowed by Edward I (1239 – 1307) on those born within a specific area of the Forest of Dean. At the museum you can actually visit the mine workings, see how coal is mined and understand the extreme conditions that miners have to work in.
Your guided tour will take about 45 minutes and will lead you underground.
