Ingatestone Hall & Gardens
Castles & Country Houses, Music, Private Collections
Ingatestone Hall, dating back to 1540, was built by Sir William Petre. His descendants, the Barons Petre, live in the house to this day. The Hall remains primarily a private family residence, but, since 1992, the family have made the house and grounds available for a wide variety of purposes.
On specified days during the summer months, visitors are welcome to spend a couple of hours or more exploring the house and grounds. Guided tours for parties are available by prior arrangement at other times.
The house contains the family picture collection.
The garden also dates from the building year, but little has survived.
Today the garden consist mainly of lawns, stew-pond, a walled garden, lilly pond, avenues...
There are also various events, such as concerts, and the Hall is a venue for corporate and private events, such as receptions, meetings, weddings...
