Palazzo Piccolomini, now serving as a contemporary art gallery and museum, was built 1460 - 1495 for Andrea Piccolomini, nephew of Pope Pius II. It was designed by Bernardo Rosellino (1409 – 1464), a sculptor and architect.
The garden, with loggias on three sides, offers a splendid view from the fourth side.
The palace was bought and renovated by the Bank of Italy in 1884.
