Trengwainton House Garden

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Trengwainton House dates back to the 16th century and was bought in 1815 by Rose Price, the son of a Jamaican sugar plantation owner. He laid out the basics of the 40 ha (98 acres) garden. The further development took place under three generations of the Bolitho family, who had acquired the property in 1867.

It was Edward Hobbyn Warren Bolitho who opened the garden for the first time in 1931 and donated the garden to the National Trust in 1961. The house itself was subsequently acquired by the Trust whereas the family retained the right to remain in residence.

The garden still reflects the 'Jamaican' influence, with a walled kitchen garden, the Orchard, Giant tree fern glades, The Upper Pond...
