Utrecht Botanic Gardens, belonging to the University of Utrecht, date back to 1639, making it one of the oldest botanic gardens in the Netherlands.
The Botanic Gardens (9 ha) were laid out on and around Fort Hoofddijk, which dates from the 19th century. There are six different gardens: the Rock Garden, the Evolution Garden, the Discovery Garden (Theme Garden), the Tropical Greenhouses, the Birders Den and the Bee Hotel.
Since 1987 also the Von Gimborn Arboretum in Doorn, is in the hands of the University of Utrecht (see: https://www.tripendy.com/location/von-gimborn-arboretum)
