Wallraf-Richartz Museum, dating back to 1824, houses an impressive a collection of fine art from the medieval period to the early twentieth century. Originated by the legacy of Franz Ferdinand Wallraf and the donation of the building in 1864 by Johann Richartz, the collection was regularly expanded by substantial donations (Haubrich, Ludwig, Corbaud...)
The current building from 2001 was designed by Oswald Ungers.
