Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Wilhelmsthal Castle is a beautiful Rococo castle displaying royal lifestyle in the 18th century with original French furniture, porcelain and paintings. The castle is surrounded by an English landscape park. The castle can be visited by guided tours and the garden is free.

It was landgrave Wilhelm VIII of Hessen-Kassel who ordered the building of a summer residence and hunting lodge for himself. The castle was constructed between 1747 and 1761 according to the plans of François Cuvilliés. The interior design was made by the sculptor Johann August Nahl, who also worked at Sanssouci Palace at Potsdam. The Palace also displays the most extensive collection of Tischbein-paintings in the world.
