The Archaeological Park of Siponto

Monuments & Sites
Archaeological Park of Siponto contains the remains of the early-Christian basilica, built in the 4th century, inside the Medieval basilica, built around 1100. The site witnesses the importance of ancient Siponto.

Siponto had become one of the important ports of Regio II during Roman times, but was abandoned after two earthquakes in 1223 and 1255, when the population moved to the new city of Manfrediana, founded by the son of Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, King Manfred (1232 – 1266)

The site operates under Direzione regionale musei Puglia, which promotes and coordinates the museums in Puglia.
