Bedrich Smetana Museum
Monuments & Sites, Museums & Art Centres
The Bedrich Smetana Museum, opened in 1936, is dedicated to the life and works of the famous composer Bedrich Smetana (1824–1884). The museum displays autographs of his greatest masterpieces along with other written documents, personal effects, and pictorial materials from his estate.
The visitors have the opportunity to listen to Smetana’s music according to one’s own selection.
The Bedrich Smetana Museum is housed in the building of the former Old Town Water Works–one of the most beautiful Neo-Renaissance structures in Prague, built in 1883-84 according to plans by Antonín Wiehl, and enhanced by rich sgraffito decoration designed by Mikoláš Aleš and František Ženíšek.
Today the museum is part of the Czech Museum of Music.
