The Crypta Balbi - National Roman Museum

The Crypta Balbi is part of the National Roman Museum, which consists of a group of museums, dedicated to the pre- and early history of Rome, comprising four branches scattered over the city. The four branches are: Palazzo Altemps, the Baths of Diocletian, the Crypta Balbi and the Palazzo Massimo.
Built between 19 and 13 BC under Lucius Cornelius Balbus, the Crypta originally housed a theatre, a block of four apartments and a patio. The theatre had a crypt where people would go during the intermissions of the different plays.
