Museums & Art Centres
The Gutenberg Museum, founded in 1900 by citizens of Mainz, is dedicated to Johannes Gutenberg, who was the inventor of printing from movable metal type in Western Europe, more than 550 years ago.
The museum shows, through four millennia of book, printing, and script culture, all aspects of the "black art".
At the heart of the permanent exhibition there are two copies of the world-famous 42-line Gutenberg Bible that can be viewed and compared in the walk-in vault.
