The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi stands in the town where the Saint Francis was born and is the place where his remains are interred. The important collection of paintings, goldsmiths and textile artefacts linked to the history of the Basilica (1228), is kept in the Gothic hall of the Sacro Convento.
The Museum has been enriched in 1986 by a donation from the late Frederick Mason Perkins (1874-1955), comprising mainly paintings by Tuscan and Venetian school of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
