The National Museum Machado de Castro, opened in 1913, presents a wide range of collections; archaeology, religious sculpture from the 10th - 18th centuries, religious precious items and jewellery, altar pieces and devotion paintings, textiles, ceramics and furniture from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
The museum is named after the renowned sculptor Joaquim Machado de Castro (1731 – 1822), and is housed in the former Bishop's Palace and its recently built addition.
