New Pinakothek (Neue Pinakothek), built from 1846-53 at the behest of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria, displays European Art of the 18th and 19th centuries, and it is one of the most important museums of art of the nineteenth century in the world.
After its complete destruction during the Second World War, the architect Alexander von Branca was entrusted with the design of the current building, which opened its doors in 1981.
