Skovgaard Museet i Viborg

Museums & Art Centres
The Skovgaard Museum, located in the 18th century old town-hall of Viborg, is dedicated to the work of four generations of one family, the Skovgaard family. In addition to the permanent exhibition of works of the Skovgaard family and some of their contemporaries, the museum holds several temporary exhibitions every year.

The artistic works, represented in the collection, are in particular focused on landscape painting as well as religious and mythological themes.

The artistic link between the Skovgaard artists and the town started when between 1901 and 1906, Joakim Skovgaard, together with his assistants, decorated the cathedral with 51 frescoes.
