Highdown Gardens is the work of Sir Frederick (1884-1967) and Lady Stern. On their almost 3.5 ha (8.5 acres) garden, located on an old chalk pit, their objective was to prove that plants would grow on chalk. Sir Frederick and Lady Stern lived in Highdow Tower (now Hotel).
