Neidhart Festsaal
Museums & Art Centres
The Neidhart Festsaal is a former Dance and Banquet Hall, containing Vienna’s oldest secular wall paintings. They date from around 1407 and were discovered during restoration works in 1979. At the time of their creation, the house belonged to a wealthy cloth merchant, Michel Menschein.
The interesting sceneries represent songs by the composer Neidhart von Reuental (ca. 1180-1240). Neidhart plays remained popular until well into the 15th century.
The exhibition gives fascinating insights into everyday life in medieval Vienna, highlighting music and dance, fashion and food.
