Ajuda National Palace, constructed from 1795 into the 19th century, the palace became the official royal residence in 1861. Open as a museum since 1968, it houses a large number of collections such as The Crown Jewels.
The collections are important and diverse; from furniture, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, photography and jewellery to glass, civilian objects, textiles, costumes, gold and silverware.
The palace is also used for state occasions.
