The Museo Nazionale del Bargello was established by royal decree on June 22, 1865, as Italy’s first national museum, and is dedicated to Medieval and Renaissance art. It has an important collection of Renaissance sculpture, a great number of works of art from the Medici collections, the suppressed convents and private collectors.
In the Sala di Michelangelo, you can admire sculptures by Michelangelo (David-Apollo, etc.), Cellini, Giambologna, and Bartolomeo Ammannati.
The museum is located in Florence’s historic Palazzo del Podestà, former barracks and a prison.
