Boboli Gardens, integral part of the Pitti Palace, were originally commissioned by Medici Duke Cosimo I and his wife Eleonora of Toledo mid-16th century. They were developed thereafter, up to the Austrian- and Savoy dynasties.
The garden with its ancient and Renaissance statues, grottos, fountains, terraces, amphitheatre (still in use), 18th century pavilion (Kaffeehaus), the Lemon House, etc., became world famous.
