Buda Castle-Royal Palace Budapest, at the southern end of Castle Hill, houses today the Budapest History Museum, the Hungarian National Gallery and the National Széchenyi Library.
It has been the Royal Palace since the 14th century. During the castle's history it has been reconstructed, demolished and reconstructed many times, also after WWII, but the massive Baroque building we see today occupying the most important part of the site was built between 1749 and 1769.
In 1987 the castle was declared part of the Budapest World Heritage Site.
