Carrickfergus Castle, dating back to 1177, has had a military history for over 750 years until 1928. Today it is an important tourist attraction with historical displays as well as cannons from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
Prince William was on his wedding day created Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. The latter title is only ceremonial.
