Hillsborough Castle and Gardens
Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Hillsborough Castle, managed by the Historic Royal Palaces, is used as the official residence for the Royal Family when they visit Northern Ireland, as well as for official guests. The castle and gardens have been reopened to the public in 2018.
Hillsborough Castle is in fact not a castle but a Georgian country house built in the 18th century for the Hill family, the Marquesses of Downshire. They owned it until 1922. Due to major restoration, the castle and gardens have been reopened in 2018.
