Castello di Copertino
Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
Castello di Copertino, dating back to the 13th century when the city was made a county capital by Charles of Anjou, is example of Apulia’s Renaissance military architecture. It has been in the hands of various families until it was acquired by the state in 1956.
Noteworthy are the cycles of frescoes in the two chapels, the important collection of archaeological finds, and a small collection of Russian and Albanian icons.
The Castle also houses temporary exhibitions, cultural events and congresses, whereas it operates under Direzione regionale musei Puglia, which promotes and coordinates the museums in Puglia.
