Château fort de Gisors

Castles & Country Houses
Château fort de Gisors was, in the 11th and 12th centuries, an important fortress of the Dukes of Normandy against the Kings of France. During the hundred years war the castle became royal residence with the construction of the common in the outer courtyard and even a stately home, of which still remains the cellar.

From 1605 Sully decides the dismantling of Gisors’s castle, not being of strategic interest anymore. Much is destroyed and some buildings become Gisors bailiwick prisons. At the French Revolution the castle becomes public property.
