Galata Museo del Mare is one the largest Maritime museums in the Mediterranean area and also one of the most modern in Italy. The museum is housed in the renovated Palazzo Galata.
The museum is dedicated to the history of the galleys, sailing, shipyards, transatlantic liners, the 'Shipowners' and is also in the possession of the diesel-electric submarine Nazario Sauro (S 518).
The renovation of the Palazzo was designed by the Spanish architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra
