Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria - Pula Fortress

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria is located in the star-shaped baroque Venetian Fortress from the 17th century, when it was built by the Venetians over the remains of the Roman capitolium. The fortress was designed by the French military architect, Antoine de Ville. Today the museum keeps part of the national and universal heritage, from the High Middle Ages until  modern times.

The museum collections consist of over 40,000 artefacts, such as the collection of old postcards, maps and the collection of arms, uniforms, military and maritime equipment.

The Historical and Maritime Museum has three other branches; the Zerostrasse (the underground tunnels of Pula), the House of Frescoes in the old school building in Draguć, and the Centre ''Herman Potocnik Noordung'' (water reservoir).
