Museo Lapidario Maffeiano

Museums & Art Centres
The Museo Lapidario Maffeiano is one of the oldest public museums in Europe and contains a fascinating collection of stone carvings and inscriptions, in particular Greek, Etruscan, and Roman.

The Museo Lapidario Maffeiano dates back to 1745 and is inextricably linked to the Marquis Scipione Maffei (1675-1755), an important Veronese academic and erudite. The museum was designed by the Veronese architect and painter Alessandro Pompei

The Maffeiano was one of the must-see places for the numerous foreign travellers during their 'Grand Tour', such as Goethe.
