In addition to the Roman Theatre, the Roman Galleries of Rua da Prata are also run by the museum. It was discovered underground, in 1771, following the earthquake of 1755.  They open to the public twice a year.

The main site of the Museum of Lisbon, in the Palácio Pimenta, presents focuses on the Pre-history to the early twentieth century, through long-term exhibitions as well as temporary exhibitions. The palace also has a documentation and service centre.

The 18th century palace was built for the mistress of King John V, Paula da Silva e Almeida, who was a nun from the Monastery of Sao Dinis in Odivelas. The monastery was a feminine Cistercian convent from the 14th century.
