Tresco Abbey Gardens, have been developed since 1834, when Augustus Smith took up residence on the Isles of Scilly as Lord Proprietor and leaseholder of all the islands. Still is the hands of the family, the garden is housing exotic plants from all over the world.

Its collections are continuously expanding and it has become great tourist attraction of the island, covering only 304 ha (750 acres).

The Valhalla Museum within Tresco Abbey Gardens displays the Valhalla Collection with some 30 figureheads, name-boards, and other decorative items relating to commercial shipping.
