The Welsh Mining Experience's highlight is the 40-minute Black Gold Experience, where you descend to the coalface, guided by an ex-miner. That industrial heritage experience is located on the grounds of the former Lewis Merthyr coal mine, closed in 1983 and now the Rhondda Heritage Park.
