Monte Sannace Archaeological Park
Monuments & Sites
Monte Sannace Archaeological Park (Parco Archeologico di Monte Sannace) was part of an ancient Apulian city (Thuriae?), which developed over an area greater than 50 hectares between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC.
The site flourished between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC, and in particular during the Hellenistic Age. In the second half of the 4th century BC, Monte Sannace was enclosed with defensive walls that divided the settlement between acropolis and town on the plain to the West.
The finds excavated from the site are at the National Archaeological Museum, Gioia del Colle (Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Gioia del Colle), see: https://www.tripendy.com/location/national-archaeological-museum-gioia-d...
The site is managed by the Direzione regionale musei Puglia, which promotes and coordinates the museums in Puglia.
