Botanic Garden of Lisbon, today part of the University of Lisbon, offers an oasis of peace amidst one of the largest collections of subtropical vegetation. It contains over 18.000 species and covers around 5 ha.

Planting started in 1873, due to the initiative of two professors of the Escola Politécnica, Count de Ficalho and Andrade Corvo.

The plants come from all over the world, like Australia, China, South America...
