Clyne Gardens belonged originally to Clyne Castle and were created by the noble and wealthy Vivian family. The landscape gardens were developed in the 1860s and further on, up to the last private owner, Admiral Algernon Walker-Heneage-Vivian.
During the Vivian period, the castle has known many historical figures, such as Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill and King Edward VIII.
Today the 19 ha (47 acres) gardens are well maintained by the City Council. They are famous for its beautiful parkland with rhododendrons, 2,000 different plants, panoramic views, the many different features, such as the Japanese Garden, the Bog garden, the Azalea garden, the Italian bridge, the Chapel...
