Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres, Music
The Kadriorg Art Museum, part of the Art Museum of Estonia, presents paintings, prints, sculptures and applied art from Western Europe and Russia, from the 16th to the 20th century. The museum is housed in a Baroque palace built by Tsar Peter the Great of Russia as a summer residence.

Next to the permanent exhibition, the museum holds temporary exhibitions presenting the public with art treasures from internationally renowned museums and private collections. Besides exhibitions, the museum also organises various educational activities and the main hall of the palace, with its unique interior and acoustics, is a great venue for plays and concerts.

Tsar Peter the Great had bought several estates, sum of which reached all together 100 hectares. On that land in 1718 the Tsar initiated laying out the palace and park ensemble that was named 'Katharinenthal' (Kadriorg) in honour of his wife. It was built after the design of Nicola Micheti, whereas parts of the job were carried out by the Roman architect Gaetano Chiaveri, the Venetian stucco master Antonio Quadri, Salomon Zeltrecht from Sweden, the sculptor Heinrich von Bergen from Riga, and many others.

The museum is surrounded by a charming park.
