National Botanic Gardens Glasnevin
Gardens & Parks
National Botanic Gardens Glasnevin (19.5 ha), were founded in 1795 by the Dublin Society (later the Royal Dublin Society). Today they are owned by the State (Office of Public Works) and house more than 20,000 living plants and many millions of dried plant specimens.
The gardens are famous for the exquisitely restored historic glasshouses.
The Glasnevin site operates also as the headquarters of the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland. They have a satellite garden and arboretum at Kilmacurragh, with a much milder climate, higher rainfall and deeper, acidic soils.
