The Royal Castle in Warsaw

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
The Royal Castle in Warsaw is the former seat of the rulers of Poland, which has been carefully reconstructed from 1971-1984 after its destruction during WW II. Today, open to the public, there is much to be seen, such as the royal apartments, the Lanckorońska collection, the Senator's Hall, the restored gardens...

The Lanckorońska collection, which was considered to be one of the best private collections in Europe, was given by Countess Karolina Lanckorońska to the Royal Castle in 1994. These paintings included some that had come from King Stanisław August’s gallery and two masterpieces by Rembrandt, which Kazimierz Rzewuski bought in 1815. By inheritance they came into the possession of the Lanckoroński family.  Countess Karolina Lanckorońska (1898 — 2002) lived in Austria and was a resistance fighter, philanthropist, and historian.
