Bratislava City Gallery - Mirbach Palace

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Bratislava City Gallery, featuring almost 33,000 works of art, is the second largest Slovak gallery of its kind. The gallery is housed in two historic palaces, the Mirbach Palace and the Pálffy Palace.

The permanent exhibition at the Mirbach palace displays gothic paintings on glass, pictures of holland and Flemish masters, and pieces from Italian artists dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Part of the palace holds temporary exhibitions.

The rococo Mirbach Palace was built in 1768-1770 by Bratislava brewer Michael Spech. Its last private owner, Count Emil Mirbach, was shot in 1945 by the invading Russians. The palace became the property of the city of Bratislava in 1948, whereas in 1975, the palace became a seat of the City Gallery of Bratislava.
