Derreen Gardens

Gardens & Parks
Derreen Gardens is more than 60 acres of garden with over 12km of paths winding through mature and varied woodland, full of rare and exotic plants, many of which were brought back from the Himalayas and elsewhere.

Derreen is particularly known for its quality and variety of rhododendrons.

The grounds came into the ownership of the Fitzmaurice family in 1657.  However it was mainly the 5th Marquis of Lansdowne who started in 1870 creating this luxuriant woodland garden. Today the estate is still owned his descendants. The house is not open to the public.
